Probably Mary suggested this cycle to Saltoun Big Wood. I'm usually up for it although it can be a bit hit or miss. Largely miss this occasion so I am hurrying along to get to some other blogs. It wasn't a miss of a day, it was a good cycle, and fine walk round the perimeter, just there were few butterflies about and not much else. Mostly just peacocks. Mary got stuck into her sandwiches as soon as we got off the bikes.
palmate newts in second pond
it was so cold this peacock enjoyed a warm hand
we carried jackets
it was warm enough cycling but had to put them on for the walking bit

bee-fly
We came across two peacocks, the male, doing the chasing, was trying to woo the female but she was having none of it. I watched for quite a while but he was making scant progress despite his enthusiasm. I suspect he eventually gave up. She was not impressed and showed no signs of encouragement.
chiffchaff or willow warbler, I forget which
I believe we took about 2hrs45 to cover the three miles, before getting back on the bikes and cycling to Aberlady via Haddington. It is always a thought doing that long climb out of Haddington although once you get to the top there is a fine coast down to Aberlady. Alas the trip to Postman's Walk (which we variously call Postman's Knock and Postman's Snatch) produced little more than SBW. A nice cycle but not a day for wildlife pics.
the second of 2 small torts
during a cloudy bit this orange tip went into zombie mode
closer still.
then we went home
Nice day out but not the best for photos.
48 miles of which about 4 or 5 walked.
