A couple of runs from yonks ago. Along with losing an interest in running and life (!) I kinda lost an interest in blogging it too. Mostly Winter blues and can't be arsed. However we now have a proper reason to be gloomy. But at least the sun is back out and the butterflies are slowly emerging. Which IS something to be cheerful about. Even if the world has gone to hell meantime.
This first one was from the 23rd Feb and although it was sunny was also probably Baltic. Gloves and hats and no hanging around. This was back in the days when you could take a pal - Nick - along on a run and buy coffee from a cafe. Before armageddon. I think we went to the Village Coffee House and didn't let on we had been cheating on them with Goose on the Green because they have bigger scones. It will be interesting to see who is still in business when we un-lockdown.
eleven of the usual suspects
nice but chilly
Then the following weekend a trip on a train to Dalmeny and a run home from there. Do you remember when we used to catch trains and go on planes on holiday. This virus has stopped so much of the air traffic in the way that Greta T and the environmentalists could only dream about. There are a lot of upsides to this new way of life. Not everyone would see them as upsides. But betting shops closing - that has to be good. Also, because we live near a stadium, no more football means no angry gangs of fans with their sectarian chants using all the available parking spaces in our street. And no Edinburgh Festival. That is harder to cheer about without sounding uncultured. But really it is largely a boozy holiday for English people, tourists and stand up comedians and the main beneficiaries are AirB&B landlords, pub landlords, tourist tat shops and restaurants. I'm really pleased we are having a break from all of that and the hordes of people crossing the roads looking the wrong way. And no street performers. Huge improvement already.
the bridge of Mary's nose
I think this was a 2 coffee day - one to get us out the door and then another bought at Pret (99p for a filter coffee) in the station. Probably quite a bit of nonsense and malarky. Snow on the distant hills and quite a lot of winter damp squelch underfoot. But a nice place to spend the day, with the prevailing wind helping us back along the coast.
Mary was running out of steam and suggested stopping for refreshments at the Falls Cafe.
Hello Andy
This is so long ago (29th Feb) I bet you don't even remember much about it?
optimism
A good day out. I think we were still marathon training back then. Mary signed up for Edinburgh ages ago - not sure why but hey, it's local. Subsequently I signed up too. About 2 days before all large events were cancelled. I think the marathon is now early Sept. I may be too old by then.
Good to see you're still about Pete, time to get them flutterbys!
ReplyDeleteIndeed Brian - saw your OT, they are just arriving here now.
