gullane again

19th June
A pretty decent run and fun at Gullane. Lots of photos and I'm struggling to get them in the right order as they came out 2 cameras and some were taken by Mary. Recently I took 3 cameras to Gullane so it is actually getting worse. The Big Camera for best photos; the Running Compact for general scenery and surprise butterflies along the way; and the Waterproof Camera for swimming. See! All absolutely necessary. Nearly.

6 spot burnet

wall

It's been so long since this photo was taken there is a new generation of Wall butterfly on the go. They are great butterflies but not always happy to sit still for a pic.

too many ticks about
I have been resorting to spraying repellent on my legs - and it is.

So I think this is where I got the Big Camera out of the back pack and handed the compact over to Mary. Who took the next few photos on the beach, except the one with her in it. Then cleverly spotted the deer just a hummock away in the dunes. We just saw the adult to start with and wondered why it wasn't moving off as quickly as expected. Then we saw a fawn in the long grass. As they crossed the next hill I ran up to the hump and caught them just yards away. Again they were fairly slow to walk away allowing for some decent photos.

ringlet

On the way back along the JMW we stopped to chase a ringlet (one of the year's first) through the long grasses. Since then huge numbers have appeared all over the Lothians. Along with huge numbers of Small Skippers, Small Heaths and Meadow Browns, they seem to be having a very good year.

The weather turned before we got back to the car and we got a right soaking! But it didn't spoil a really decent day out.
