Pentland Skies

The weather was looking pretty good for Tuesday 15th December so we headed to the Bonaly side of the Pentos. I was wary of parking all the way up the road in the (maybe busy) car park but Mary reckoned it would be okay. It can be a nightmare trying to turn and retreat if the car park and field is rammed, but we got lucky and there were several spaces. We thought a lot of the early morning walkers would already be done and have left already, as it was quite late (started at 12.44!). I was hoping the sunshine might hang around long enough to make a spectacular sunset. (Spoiler alert, it didn't.) But it was fab for most of the run.

Bonaly Reservoir and Capelaw

When we got down Harbour Hill we turned left at Maiden's Cleugh
to descend to Glencorse Reservoir

this swan had a dirty head and neck from dooking in the silt

a lot of splosh on the paths

ran back along the edge of Threipmuir then round
the back of Harlaw

Although the sky was fairly spectacular as the sun went down, there was too much of a build up of low purple clouds on the horizon and nothing much appeared in the way of a sunset. We saw some pink clouds and felt that someone somewhere was getting a decent show but it wasn't us. However it was a really pleasant run and slightly further than we had anticipated going. When you stick to lower ground with tarmac in places, the miles pass quicker than the usual Pentland miles which involve longs drags up and swampy (Black) hill tops.

and back to grey gloom!
