Seems ages ago now. Trying to recall what went on that weekend. Saturday Mary had ambitions to run further than the usual circuit round Gullane Aberlady. However she didn't feel great and we returned to the car after exactly that, the usual 6 miles.
Always on the look out for Holly Blues at the ivy wall (below) near the public loos, but nothing much happening there. I'm guessing it was a little chilly and maybe blowy as there are no butterfly photos. I remember feeling disappointed not to be going further but tried to hide that and hoped Mary felt better about doing a longer run the following day.

fresh common blue
always nice to see the sanderlings in groups up and down the beach
Next day and Mary was feeling more up for a longer run. Her working Fridays are long and often take most of Saturday to recover from. On Sunday we were taking no prisoners and parked at North Berwick (behind B&As house but couldn't see them in the garden, I think they were off on holidays) then ran to Aberlady and back. We took the road as far as Gullane and that certainly made the initial 5 miles pass quickly. From there we followed the usual circuit round the JMW across the bridge at Aberlady and then back along the beaches and trails to NB. Weather looks pretty good and there seems to have been a few more butterflies about.

back along the usual trails
very new common blue
slightly older female
We don't often stop for a Mr Whippy but were doing important research (after Professors Cowie and Duncan) that ice cream could be an important ultra food. 16.7 miles is hardly ultra distance but it was as near as we were likely to get. Tests proved inconclusive and further research may be required.
meadow brown
tree troll in summer plummage
There is considerably less in the way of light in the woods than outwith. So not the best place to try jumping skyward while someone else takes the mid-air shot. Probably still on a sugar high from the whippy.
small skipper on buddleia
Last of the DGFs:
actually there will still be some around 2 weeks later but none looked very fresh

Mary noticed this picturesque gate and took a photo.
I blatantly stole the idea and ran with it.

the Chinese Privet at the propeller cone folly has been a big disappointment this year
(very few DGFs there compared to last year's glories)

feeling much better today
whoooosh!
sexy!
the van had its annual wash (whether it needs it or not) before going to have its check up
I am pleased to report for a small gratuity, well possibly nearer medium sized, it passed its MOT.
Hurray! Another year of living dangerously!
16.7 miles and very pleasant
