good but not great

19th November for a brisk gallop, Longniddry to North Berwick.

train out of Waverley

This should have been a great day out. A run on a sunny day down the coast. In the past this would have been more than enough. Only nobody was out and about. Nae wildlife. It has become clear that my love for running has been compromised. While I still really enjoy the process and idea of running, I feel it can be really improved by taking photos of mother nature and all her offspring along the trails. I know, I know, it is greedy to want 2 drugs at the same rave, or 2 puddings during the same lunchtime. But somewhere I lost the love for the purity of just running, and always have half an eye on the flowers in case there is a butterfly among them. Is that so wrong? Well, it kinda ruined this outing because there was feckall out today. Nice run though!

I’m not feckall!

We haven’t played this game in a while: while the sun is low you can jump a little way off the sand and your shadow appears entirely detached. If you time it right you can take a photo. Easier to do of your own shadow that saying on the count of one two three and then getting a photo like the two above.

how could this not be enough?!

this group of dithering students we passed on the narrow singletrack

Turnstones are great for sitting tight when you approach, rather than flying off. However it is because they are so well camouflaged that they virtually disappear visually on seaweed. Where they peck about for goodies. The compact camera I was using was struggling to discern bird from background.

Mary got a better pic of this (f) stonechat.

sandplough?

redshank on the run!

Buttercup Cafe’s finest - very gratifying!
Had to make sure sausage roll was tubular not sqare!

Then (and only because we had some time to spare)
we had a pint at the Boat Club Pub on the high street.

By the time we got to the station there was a golden lager light over the whole of NB and a blurry train coming into the station. Everything was splendid and the lack of wildlife was no longer such an issue. If lessons were learned it is tricky to know what they were. Possibly you can’t have it all, but some of it is very nice. I should make a meme of that.

oh it’s cold when you stop running!

put that face away

they rode off into the sunset
and everything was groovy
