I had thought the warmth might have brought out the dragon- and damselflies but maybe too much of a chilly onshore breeze. To avoid this we headed inland and through the woods, before arriving at the shore on the other side of Gullane. We returned to the van via Gullane beach which was medium busy. Loving the summer sun!

cinnabar
31/05/14
Chasing butterflies on the beach. Well, neither. They were moths, and they were on the machar or the sandy grasslands between the beach and the road. I thought they might be related to the Six Spot Burnet: a daylight moth you get there in July as they were a similar colour with bright scarlet underwings that would flash as they flit through the grasses and dodged the camera very successfully. They were Cinnabar Moths, another daylight species.
