17-06-25 A while since I've been along to Warriston. The grasses and undergrowth have not stopped growing meanwhile and it is almost a different environment - much more jungley!

A pterodactyl lurks in the river.
Until another larger one lands nearby and forcefully takes the prime location.

Near the In Loving mosaic 2.5 commas have taken up residence. (First new commas of the season.) One is a perfect brand new specimen and I take far too many photos. Another is equally new but has had a run in with a bird and is missing large sections of its wings. I am surprisingly touched and saddened by this tragedy so early in its career. Just out the pupa and bang, nearly destroyed wings. The third example seems to be an ancient one from earlier in the year. Surely not an overwinterer from last year?

nice to see this good quality painted lady

This was a cracker of an RA. It saw me taking photos and creeping up on it and decided to turn the tables by perching high above and looking down at me!
squirrel
It's a while since I have been in feeding the crows and squirrels and this one took a moment to assess the situation, but was fairly interested in a peanut handout.

5.5 miles in 3.5hrs. I must return soon. Lots can happen while your back is turned and I do enjoy the place. There is still only the main gate entrance, the others being closed off despite popular opinion. However that cuts down the amount of dogwalkers and it can feel quite empty of extraneous humanity, so it is not all bad.
